Poetry
The Old Home Place

The old home place is gone now –
Only memories remain
Of all the joy and laughter
And sometimes hurt and pain
That happens in a family
Where there is give and take
Where children learn to live and love
And there’s more soup than steak
When it was hard to make ends meet
And yet most all agree
It’s times like that when people grow
And better folk can be.
I’m glad for all the memories
That the old place brings to me
Of family fun and simple things
That in my mind I see.
Yes, the old home place is gone now
But not the memories it brings
For memories are heart songs
That one can always sing.

Why is it called
The funny bone?
Whenever I bump it,
I only moan.
